When I ordered my second RPi, I got 2 Edimax units, they were slightly less expensive, but if they are actually shower, I will stick with the Airlink's. Not sure why the devices would be different in speed when using the same drivers, but apparently it does make a difference. I have ordered another Airplay to see if I can duplicate this. Note that the newer RPi has a fully new configuration on it as well, the only difference appears to be the WiFi USB device.

I moved a newer RPi to the TV which had the original Airlink WiFi USB in it and the problem went away. Tonight after resurecting the older OS I had used originally, I saw the same choppiness with the Edimax. I noticed that I was having problems playing mp4 videos over the network using omxplayer. I had to rebuild my original RPi the other day from a fresh install and I used the Edimax WiFi USB when I built it instead of the original Airlink. I just concluded tonight that the Edimax EW-7811Un WiFi card is for some reason slower than the Airlink 101 which both use the same drivers.
